224 years of police service recognised today

Wellington Police will recognise 224 years of staff service at a long service presentation this afternoon.

Minister of Police, Hon. Annette King, will make the presentations. The event will take place at 3.00pm at the Wellington Central Police Station.

14 YEARS

Detective Simon King

Current role:

Detective in Wellington Child Abuse Team

Former experience includes:

Newtown Community Constable, Youth Aid Officer

Sergeant Jacquie Muir

Most recent role (currently on parental leave):

Wellington District Workplace Assessor (assists probationary constables with workplace assessment programme)

Former experience includes:

Detective in Porirua, has previously worked in Auckland

Senior Sergeant Tim Crawford

Current role:

Shift Supervisor in charge of a Wellington City general duties policing group

Former experience includes:

Detective, Recruit Instructor

21 YEARS

Graham Wallwork

Current role:

Physical Education Officer

Former experience includes:

Fitness advisor for NZ Rugby League, weight-lifting champion

Senior Constable Lance McClure

Current role:

42 YEARS

Presentation of the 42-Year Clasp is a rare event.

Inspector Greg Gilpin

Current role:

Response Manager, Wellington City Area

Former experience includes:

Greg joined police when officers were still issued with whistles to call for help and there was only one police car assigned to the Wellington City Police Station. He was working when the first police radios were introduced.

He has chosen to continue in operational, frontline policing in Wellington City throughout his career. He spent 15 years at the Taranaki Street Enquiry Office investigating fatal car accidents and other serious crime including the Sprott House fire which killed seven elderly residents in 1969.

He has worked on major incidents including the Erebus disaster, Wahine sinking and the Mikhail Lermontov sinking.

He received an MNZM in 2004 for services to the Police and the NZSSM (Erebus) this year.
