Two pub burglaries committed minutes apart in Tawa and Porirua

1 min read

At about 4am this morning a man wearing a black balaclava, blue jacket and dark pants entered the Clockwork Gold, a licensed bar on the corner of Main Road and Essex St, Tawa. He stole money before leaving the building.

A short time later at 4.07am, an offender gained entry to the Rockz Cafe & Bar on Lydney Place in Porirua where further money was taken.

Detective Sergeant Shane Rongonui of Porirua Police says a man was seen leaving the area near the Rockz Café & Bar around this time riding a dark coloured dirt bike.

Because of similarities between the two burglaries, Police are investigating the possibility that they may be linked and are seeking any information from the public to assist with their inquiries.

"The timing of the two burglaries and similarities in the description of someone seen near both premises means it's possible the two burglaries were committed by the same person.

"It would be a strange coincidence if different offenders were involved, but we're still open to that possibility.

"It's a significant blow to both these local businesses, but we're convinced there are other witnesses and people who know something about this," says Detective Sergeant Rongonui.

Police are already speaking to witnesses, but urge anyone with information to contact Detective Sergeant Shane Rongonui on Tel: 04 238 1400.
