AOS callout in Wellington this afternoon

1 min read

A man who sparked a Police Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) callout in Wellington at about 3.50pm this afternoon has been found to have been carrying an imitation pistol.

The man was seen by members of the public on Webb and Willis Streets and then entering flats on Nairn Street.

The Police AOS responded and the man was taken into custody.

The man will be given a warning about behaving carelessly with the imitation pistol, but police won't be pursuing charges as there were no sinister circumstances.

The incident is unrelated to another incident that occurred around the same time where a man demanded money from a Wellington city bank. Police will be releasing more information about this second incident in due course.
