As the second night since 17 month-old Alyssa Barker's disappearance closes in, Police in west Auckland are urging anyone with information about her to contact them immediately.

Alyssa was taken from her family home in the settlement of Makurau near Kaukapakapa by 27 year-old Skye Mason at about 3pm yesterday [Friday].

The pair visited a Glen Eden home of associates of Skye's last night at about 10pm but had gone by the time Police were informed they had been there.

Detective Inspector Stan Brown says it's vital that Alyssa is returned to the safety of her family as soon as possible.

"As far as we know, Skye left Alyssa's family home without any baby clothes, toys, food or blankets with her.

"The temperature last night was very cool and it's likely to be colder tonight with rain also forecast.

"It's possible Skye is hiding out somewhere or has even left the Auckland region.

"If anyone has seen her or Alyssa or has heard of anyone who has, they need to contact Police on 111 or call 0800 674 673."

Search and Rescue and LANDSAR searched in the Glen Eden area until 5 o'clock this morning and were back on duty at midday today.

They will continue searching in the area where the pair were last seen as well as any obvious larger areas.
