Christchurch Police are looking for a man, believed to be in his twenties, following a bank robbery in Woolston this afternoon [Monday 24 September].

Police were called to the ANZ Bank in Ferry Road at approximately 3.20pm after alarms at the branch were activated.

Detective Sergeant Al Lester says a man had entered the bank carrying a bag, and had approached a teller demanding money.

A small sum of money was taken and the alleged offender left the bank. The female bank teller was not injured.

"Bank staff have followed correct procedures and acted very sensibly in this incident," Detective Sergeant Lester says.

Police are working with the bank tonight to access security camera footage, which it is hoped will be able to assist with the investigation.

The alleged offender is described as a male Caucasian in his early twenties, tall and of medium to slim build. No other details are available at present.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Christchurch police on (03) 3637400. Alternatively, to provide information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
