Otaki attempted robbery #4

1 min read

Police are this morning finishing their examination at the scene of yesterday’s attempted robbery of the ANZ bank in Otaki.

This has included examination by ESR scientists of areas of interest, including the security door where a firearm was discharged in a failed attempt to gain access. Police are also searching the surrounding area.

About 9.30am yesterday, a disguised man entered the bank in Main Street, Otaki and presented a firearm at staff. He left the bank without taking any money. He also fired a shot into a security door that tellers use in the bank.

DSS Hercock said the man was wearing a blue mask with white teeth on it, a black jacket with a white or grey stripe above and below the elbow and orange gloves, the type used for dishwashing or gardening. He was wearing black pants.

The man exited the bank through the front door and the bank carpark at the rear of the building and continued towards the south.

“Police will today be talking with eye witnesses and canvassing the neighbourhood for information about yesterday’s failed robbery attempt. Police are also asking that anyone with information that may be relevant to the inquiry to make contact, as we are keen to locate this person as quickly as possible,” DSS Hercock said.
