At approximately 11.30am this morning Police executed a drugs warrant at an address in Park Road, Katikati with the assistance of the Armed Offenders Squad.
Shortly after executing the warrant a large fire occurred in an industrial style building at the property, requiring a number of fire appliances.
There was a significant amount of smoke as a result of the fire so police temporarily evacuated a small number of people from nearby buildings as a precaution. No one was injured.
The fire scene has now been secured until the area has cooled down and an investigation into the cause can be carried out.
There are reports in the media that the scene is a methamphetamine lab. Police are unable to confirm whether this is the case as it is not possible at this stage to examine the scene of the fire.
Two men and a woman are currently assisting police with their enquiries.
