Christchurch Police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of a man believed to be responsible for numerous burglaries around Christchurch and elsewhere in the South Island.

Aiden Hamilton, a 20 year old Caucasian man, 176cm (5ft 9in) tall, of medium build, is wanted on a parole recall warrant, and Police also want to speak to him in relation to other alleged offences.

Hamilton was charged with the burglary of residential properties in Somerfield, Christchurch, last month, and had been released on bail in late January.

"We do not believe he has any intention of turning himself in," says Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Hill of Christchurch Police. "He was wearing an electronic bail ankle bracelet, which he has removed."

Police believe that for the past several days Hamilton was in the company of an associate, and that the pair were involved in burglaries as far afield as the West Coast and Otago.

The other man, a 31-year old from Christchurch, was arrested today in Opawa and will face burglary-related charges at the Christchurch District Court tomorrow.

Detective Senior Sergeant Hill says it is likely Hamilton is now in the Canterbury area, and may be using stolen vehicles, and staying in motels.

"Hamilton is a prolific burglar and it is of concern that he is continuing to offend. We want to bring him in as soon as possible."

"We are asking members of the public to be on the lookout for this man and to report any sightings or suspicious activity to Police as soon as possible," he says.

"If anyone has information about his whereabouts or movements, please contact us directly - or anonymously through the Crimestoppers line."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Christchurch police on (03) 3637400.

Alternatively, to provide information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
