Charges confirmed in assault arrest

Police have confirmed that Douglas James Archer, who was arrested in Christchurch this afternoon, will face charges in relation to the alleged assault on an elderly couple in St Martins last Friday.

He will appear in Christchurch District Court tomorrow morning on two charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and one charge of aggravated robbery.

Detective Senior Sergeant Darryl Sweeney says Archer is expected to be transferred from Christchurch Hospital to the police custodial facility this evening.

He says Police have yet to recover the car that Archer was believed to have been using and are appealing for information or sightings of the vehicle, a white 1996 Honda Accord LXI sedan, registration number UJ7255.
