One person dead after crash in Pound Road

Christchurch Police have confirmed that a man has died following a crash between a small truck and a pedestrian in Pound Road, Yaldhurst, this afternoon.

The man is believed to have been a passenger in a car which had pulled over to the side of the road, and had just stepped out of the vehicle when it was struck by the truck, which was travelling south on Pound Road. The incident occurred at around 12.10pm.

The pedestrian was confirmed deceased at the scene by ambulance staff.

Police say no further details of the crash are available as yet, and the identity of the deceased is not available.

Nobody else is believed to be injured, although the driver of the truck has been taken to hospital by ambulance for assessment, and the driver of the car has also been taken to hospital by a family member for assessment.

Pound Road is currently closed between Ryans Road and Yaldhurst Road. The closures are expected to remain in place for several hours.

The Police serious crash unit and commercial vehicle investigation unit are attending at the scene.
