Fire investigation continues

Police are continuing to investigate a fire in Rotorua that claimed the life of one teenager and has left another in hospital in a critical condition.

A post mortem examination has been completed today. Police are hoping to be in a position to confirm the identity of the teenager tomorrow in consultation with the Coroner.

Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Perks said: “I won’t be drawn into commenting on the outcome of the post mortem or speculation about the cause of the fire. We still have a number if enquiries to complete and we still need to speak to teenagers who at the premises taking into account their ages, and their physical and emotional welfare.”

A 17-year-old man remains in Waikato Hospital in a critical but stable condition. All of the other teenagers who received hospital treatment have now been discharged.
