Police working to establish identity of body found in Hamilton house fire

1 min read

As they work to establish the identity of a body discovered in a fatal house fire, Hamilton Police say their thoughts are with the deceased's family and with a fire-fighter injured while bringing the blaze under control.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ross McKay of the Hamilton CIB said emergency services were called to a Brooklyn Rd address about 12.20pm.

"Fire-fighters arrived at the scene to find a house well ablaze, as they worked to bring the fire under control one of the fire-fighters suffered an injury during a ceiling collapse and he has been taken to a local A&E clinic for an X-ray, his injuries are not described as serious and our thoughts are with him for a speedy recovery.

"During the course of the fire-fighters extinguishing the blaze and clearing the scene the body of a yet to be identified person was discovered. Right now the priority for Police is establishing the identity of this person and any other party linked to the address."

Mr McKay said while this was going on a scene examination will be carried out and it is likely scene guards will be in place at the property overnight.

"Further information will be made available if it comes to hand but the priority for investigators is to identify not only the person found in the house but their relatives and ensure everyone linked to the address is accounted for."
