Counties-Manukau Police are asking for the public's help to find eight-year-old Makai Keegan, who ran away from his Manurewa home on Sunday 30 June.

Inquiries to date have been unsuccessful in finding Makai, who Police believe is avoiding being found.

Makai is thought to be using public transport daily to travel between Manurewa and the Auckland CBD. He is believed to visit shopping areas and malls and is travelling with other youths.

Senior Sergeant Sundip Patel of Manurewa Police, says they want to find Makai as soon as possible to ensure his safety, and are seeking the public's help to find him.

"Police are asking anyone travelling on public transport between Manurewa and the Auckland CBD to keep an eye out for Makai and to please report any positive sightings to Police. Manurewa and Clendon residents are also asked keep a look out for Makai and please let us know if they see him.

"We are also asking that anyone who has seen or heard from Makai since he ran away to come forward to help us find him. We need to ensure his safety and reassure his family and others who are worried about him.

"We are also asking Makai to make contact with us or his family so we can help get him safely home."

Any positive sightings of Makai should be reported to Police on 111.
