Police are investigating a two car crash north of Orewa, in which the female driver of one of the vehicles has been killed.
Police say the crash happened at about 1.15pm today, Tuesday 19 February 2008 on State Highway One in an area between Orewa and Hatfield's Beach.
Both lanes were closed for several hours while members of the Serious Crash Unit carried out a scene examination to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the fatality. State Highway One has since reopened.
The deceased was driving a Silver Ford Falcon. She is believed to have died at the scene. A male passenger is in Auckland Hospital with serious injuries. Three occupants were in a Red Toyota Corolla. All have been transported to Auckland hospital by ambulance. They have moderate injuries.
Police are appealing to members of the public who witnessed the two car crash or were in the area prior to the incident to contact Constable Karl Bevin of the Serious Crash Unit on telephone 09 481 0300 with any information.
