Elderly man faces more charges

1 min read

The Auckland City Adult Sexual Assault Team has today laid further sexual assault charges against a 75 year-old Wanganui man. He will appear in the Wanganui District Court today to face four more counts of Indecent Acts on a male victim aged under 16.

On February 4, the man - who has interim name suppression until today - was charged with 24 sexual assault offences relating to two other complainants. Those offences allegedly occurred when he was coaching school boy softball and rugby league at the Metro Softball Club and the Mt Albert Rugby League Junior Club throughout the 1970's and 1980's.

The latest alleged offending occurred in Helensville in the early 1970's while the male victim was aged between 10 and 11 years.

"These further charges relate to a new complainant who came to Police after the original arrest received publicity on February 4," Detective Leone Scott of the Adult Sexual Assault Team said.

"The latest alleged offending again occurred in relation to the suspect's involvement with the Metro Softball Club or the Mt Albert Rugby League Junior Club during the 1970's and 1980's."

Police are still interested in hearing from members of the public who may have been associated in some way to the Metro Softball Club or the Mt Albert Rugby League Junior Club during the 1970's and 1980's, and who may have relevant information to assist Police.

Detective Leone Scott can be contacted at the Adult Sexual Assault Team by phoning 09 302 6806.
