Police have released descriptions of five or six males they believe are allegedly involved in the attack on tourists in Christchurch city early last Saturday morning.
Around 1am on Saturday 12 April, eight tourists from the UK and Denmark, two women and six males, were walking from Lichfield Street to High Street, and were at 'Hacky Sack corner' ( intersection High/ Cashel) when the men were attacked from behind by a group of five or six males.
"This was an unprovoked attack," says DSS David Harvey. "The tourists did nothing wrong."
Of the six, two were stabbed it is believed with a knife. One of these men is the last of the group in hospital and is reported to be comfortable and likely to be discharged today.
Of the others injured, one suffered a broken wrist, the others minor concussion and bruising. Four were treated in hospital. Medical staff have indicated that the injuries could have been a lot more serious.
Extensive inquiries are underway ro identify the group of people responsible.

Six males aged between 18- 23 years old;
1 dark skinned male, solid build, 180 cm tall, early 20's
2 caucasian male, 180cm tall, broad build
3 caucasian male, 19 -20 years, slight build
4 male, medium build, about 185 cm tall, described as a 'big guy', of 'stocky build'.
5 male Caucasian, late teens, early twenties, 172 - 177 cm tall, medium build
6 male Caucasian, skinny build
