2 min read

"Our Number One priority is to get this little girl back to her parents," Detective Inspector Steve Wood, of Waitemata District CIB said this morning.

"We do have concerns for the safety of this young girl," he said.

A large team of police have been working through the night in their ongoing investigation into the abduction yesterday of five and half year old Cina MA aka known as "Shing Shing".

"The incident happened at about 12.30pm yesterday Monday 14 July 2008. The young girl was on her bike playing on the footpath outside her home in Harrowglen when she was abducted."

"A masked or disguised man who was the sole occupant and driver of an unidentified silver car has stopped and grabbed the girl and then put her into the vehicle. The car has then sped from the scene. The abduction was witnessed by the victim's six year old cousin. Both he and the parents have been interviewed by police."

"Obviously we are not able to explain at this time any of the integral investigative methods or factors we are using in this enquiry, but every resource at our disposal is being made available. A large team of investigators is working around the clock and we have the support of a wide number of agencies."

"The family is receiving counselling from Victim Support. Authorities at the airports have been notified and are on alert."

"The details of this abduction are still evolving. The only witness we have is a six year old boy. We call on anyone who has seen any suspicious vehicle activity in the streets within Harrowglen in recent days to contact us immediately."

"Our number one priority is to get this little girl back with her parents."

"Anyone with information on the whereabouts of this missing girl is asked to contact the North Shore CIB urgently. The number to call is at North Shore Policing Centre on 09 477 5000, OR the confidential text line on 027 27 27 699,"

Detective Inspector Wood said.
