Inquiry into missing woman Kerry Downey continues

1 min read

The inquiry into missing woman Kerry DOWNEY continues at an address on Riccarton Road. Ms Downey was reported missing on Tuesday morning after she failed to keep an appointment and could not be contacted. She was last seen just after 7.00 pm on Monday the 18th of August 2008 at a large block of flats on Riccarton Road.

Detective Senior Sergeant Grant WORMALD states that Police currently have an area of those flats cordoned off and a thorough scene examination is being undertaken which is likely to take several days.

The area on Worsleys' Road where a body was found was examined yesterday and that examination has now been completed. Formal identification of the body has not yet taken place.

Detective Senior Sergeant WORMALD is still keen to hear from members of the public who might have seen Ms DOWNEY's red Suzuki Alto hatchback on either Monday evening or during Tuesday. The car was located parked on the side of the road at 2.00 am on Wednesday morning on Neville Street near Barrington Street.

"People in the neighbourhood are being approached to establish when the car was parked there. This is an important aspect of the enquiry. Clearly the car has been driven from Riccarton Road where Ms DOWNEY was last seen. The car could have been used to travel around the city so any sightings of it are important," said Detective Senior Sergeant WORMALD.

The car has now been removed from Neville Street and is undergoing examination.

Anyone with information regarding the car or any aspect of the investigation is asked to ring the Christchurch Central Police Station, phone 3637400.
