Police Complete Auckland Prison Investigations

North Shore Police have completed their investigations into four serious assaults that occurred at Auckland Prison, Paremoremo on Wednesday 6th August 2008.

As a result of the attacks four male inmates were seriously injured. Two of the injured inmates required further medical treatment and had to be taken to North Shore Hospital by ambulance.

Police say as a result of their enquiries a 38 year old and a 20 year old are to be jointly charged with assaulting three inmates. These two men are each facing three charges of Injuring with Intent.

Four other male inmates, aged between 21 and 27 years old, are to be jointly charged with Injuring with Intent after collectively assaulting another inmate.

A date for their Court appearance is expected to be determined within the next two weeks.

Police wish to express their thanks to the Auckland Prison Management and to Corrections staff for their assistance during the enquiry.
