03 February 2009

A woman was extradited by Waikato Police from Australia overnight to face kidnapping charges in the Hamilton District Court today.

Acting Waikato Crime Services Manager, Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Nicholls, said the charges related to the alleged role the 36-year-old Hamilton woman played in an August 2006 kidnapping.

"A number of other people have already been convicted for their part in the kidnapping and this woman is the last in the group involved to be charged."

"Extradition procedures began sometime ago and finally came to fruition last week when she was arrested in Queensland on Thursday where she was held in custody until the arrival of our staff to escort her back from trial.

Arriving in the country early this morning the woman was kept in custody and is due to appear in court later today.
