48-year-old man arrested after serious assault in Kaikohe

A man is in a critical condition in Auckland Hospital following a serious assault in Kaikohe on Friday May 6.
 
Police were called to an incident in Clifford St, Kaikoke, late Friday night where a man had suffered serious injuries received in an assault. He was flown to Auckland Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
 
A 48-year-old man was arrested and charged with injuring with intent to injure. He was remanded in custody and will re-appear in Whangarei District Court on May 11. 
 
Police investigations into the assault are continuing. As the matter is before the Court we are unable to provide further information at this stage.
