Courageous woman fights off attacker in home invasion

1 min read

Porirua Police are praising the actions of a Whitby woman who courageously fought off a man in a home invasion on Wednesday night.

Detective Sergeant Jason Dombroski, Porirua CIB, said police need help to find the attacker who confronted the woman as she was preparing for bed in her Staithes Drive North, Whitby, Porirua, home about 11.15pm.

Police think the attacker got in through an insecure door, and punched the woman several times around her head as he tried to subdue her.

"The victim courageously fought back, broke free and called police," Detective Sergeant Dombroski said. "The intruder has then run from the house."

The woman required medical treatment for some cuts and bruises.

Her attacker is described as male, clean shaven, medium build and about 175cm tall. He was possibly wearing a dark top.

Police are appealing for people who were in the area about the time of the attack, who saw any suspicious activity, have information about the attack or who know the offender's identity, to contact Porirua Police on 238 1400.
