Ngaruawahia body release 2

Two separate inquiries are currently underway to establish just how a body came to be lying opposite a Ngaruawahia dairy early this morning.

Acting Waikato Crime Services Manager, Detective Inspector Greg Nicholls, said Police had established the identity of the dead person.

"He has been identified as a 16-year-old local youth and his death has been referred to the Coroner with a post-mortem likely to be carried out in Auckland tomorrow.

"The Police investigation involves the examination of two scenes, one where the body was found the other at the nearby Ngaruawahia Fire Station where a window was smashed. Both scenes are in close proximity to one another," he said.

Mr Nicholls said now that the young man's identity had been established the main focus of the enquiry teams' work was piecing together the circumstances of how he can to be lying in the street.

"It is too early to make comment on the cause of the young man's death," he said.
