Search for dangerous man

Canterbury Police are urgently seeking William Alexander STEWART aged 47 after an incident overnight in Haswell.

The Halswell Chemist was ram raided this morning and it believed he was involved. He then dumped the vehicle he was in about 6am in Wigram Road and allegedly stole another nearby in Winchops Rd. It is a white Subaru Legacy 1993, reg CR 6361.

Senior Sergeant Stu Munro of Lincoln Police says he would like to hear of any other vehicles in the area stolen this morning especially four wheel drives.

STEWART is wanted by police as he has 5 outstanding warrants for his arrest. He is a caucasian male, 177cms tall, thin build, but has cut his long straggly hair. He now has a rough no 2 cut. He is in an unkempt condition.

STEWART has been sought by police for a number of weeks after he confronted an officer near the Rangitata River. It is believed he is living rough in rural central mid Canterbury.

Police advise that he should not be approached and would like to hear from anybody who may have seen him or this vehicle. The public should contact police immediately if they sight this man.
