Update on police camera issue

1 min read

Police have now spoken to all those identified in the police camera left at an address in Lower Hutt in December.

A total of seven people have been contacted, including the relatives of a deceased individual whose body had been photographed.

Police have also contacted the owners of five identifiable vehicles which were pictured in the camera.

Police have apologised to all those people and given an assurance that everything would be done to prevent further publication of the pictures. The individuals had also been told that measures have been taken to ensure a situation like this did not happen again.

Superintendent Pieri Munro, Wellington District Commander, said most of them had welcomed the contact from Police.

"Most were surprised and appreciative" he said.

An investigation into the circumstances around the loss of the camera and its recovery is continuing.
