Police are still looking for William Stewart. The Toyota Hilux Ute, believed to be driven by Stewart, was seen in the Mt Somers area by a member of the public this morning between 6:00am and 8:00am
Police were quickly in the area but despite numerous patrols and an aerial search, Stewart was not located after having evaded the member of the public who was following him.
Police believe that Stewart may still be in the Mid Canterbury area, around Methven and Mt Somers and advise people to lock their houses, sheds and vehicles.
Any suspicious behaviour or sightings of Stewart or the silver 2008 Toyota Hilux 4 wheel drive, double cab with well side, registration number ETU351, should be reported to Police immediately on 111.
When last seen, Stewart was unshaven and could now have a short beard. He is 47 years old, a caucasian male, 177cms tall, thin build, but has cut his long straggly hair into a rough no 2 cut.
