1 min read

While Waikato Police work to establish the cause of a fatal motorcycle crash in Hamilton this afternoon the name of a Te Kuiti man killed in a smash near Pirongia on Tuesday night has been released.

He was Anthony Whareroangatapara Marsh, 22, of Te Kuiti.

Mr MARSH died after the car he was driving failed to negotiate a bend and collided with a tree on SH31 near the intersection with Te Kawa Rd.

In the latest crash investigators are still at the scene working out what caused the crash that claimed the life of the male rider of a Ducati road bike in East Hamilton today.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Wellington and Firth Streets about 12.53pm.

The man's death brings the Waikato's road toll to 16 compared to 21 for the same period last year.

Today's fatality was the first road death in Hamilton this year and comes at a time when Police and other agencies are working to highlight the issue of motorcycle safety in the Waikato.

A joint safety campaign with the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) is set to begin in Hamilton on the 19 May and is the urban phase of a safety campaign launched in the Coromandel and Hauraki Plains areas late last year.
