Women top the wing - Police graduation tomorrow

2 min read

Seventy-eight new constables will graduate from The Royal New Zealand Police College in Wing 257 tomorrow. Their wing patron has been loved and respected actor and broadcaster Dame Kate Harcourt.

Women make up just 20 per cent of the wing but have won the four top prizes for academic and overall achievement during their training (see prize list below). Unusually, three of these prize winners have also taken out the 'section prizes' which are decided by their peers on the basis of who they think has made the greatest contribution to each section's team spirit.

Graduation will take place at The Royal New Zealand Police College, Papakowhai Rd, Porirua on Thursday 25 June 2009 at 2:00pm. The ceremony will be attended by Police Commissioner Howard Broad.

78 recruits will graduate - 62 males, 16 females.

The average age of wing members is 29. The youngest is 18 and the oldest is 48.
