Arrest made following Invercargill burglary and arson

Police have arrested and charged a person in relation to a burglary and an arson which occurred in Strathern, Invercargill on Monday 14th November.

The Pomona Street Discount Store on Tramway Road was broken into at approximately 5:50am on Monday.

Then at approximately 7am the same morning there was a suspicious fire in the old takeaways building on Pomona Street.

A 22-year-old man has now been charged with burglary and arson and will be appearing in Invercargill District Court later this afternoon.

Police would like to thank the members of the public who called emergency services about the fire as the information they provided greatly assisted this investigation.

As this matter is now before the courts, Police cannot comment further
