Attempted Aggravated Robbery

1 min read

At about 2pm today, there was an attempted aggravated robbery of a ACN Currency security van outside The Warehouse store in Lyall Bay, Wellington.

Two security staff were returning to the security van when they were approached by a male holding a firearm.  The gunman demanded money from the guards but was refused.  He has then run off to a nearby vehicle where an accomplice was waiting and driven off heading towards Lyall Bay.

They have driven off in a 1998 White coloured Mazda Capella Registration Number: DUG642, which was stolen earlier in the day.

Police were advised and attended the scene.  The offending car was subsequently located near Box Hill in Khandallah around 3.30pm and a male was located nearby and arrested without incident.  The second male offender and the firearm have not been located at this stage.   (There is no description of the second offender)

The security guards were not injured but obviously very shaken after the ordeal.

Police are seeking any witnesses who saw anything suspicious were near The Warehouse at the time of the attempted robbery or near the Box Hill area around 3 - 4pm.  Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Olivia Gibson at Wellington Police on (04) 3812000 or provide information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
