Attendees at Armageddon 2016 be wary of your weapons

1 min read

Armageddon expo is a New Zealand owned commercial science fiction and comics convention held in New Zealand in various cities including  Wellington.

The Westpac Stadium in Wellington this weekend is playing host to the Armageddon Expo, running from 4-6 of June.

The event dubbed the ‘Wellington Geek Event’ sees many keen patrons dressing up in costumes which may include accessories such as weapons being carried and while they are fake, they look real.

Those attending the festival are asked that they be careful when they are walking to and from the events around Wellington and that they carry these 'weapons' with care so as not to scare members of the public.

Police today have responded to a job where a man in Porirua, who was going to the Armageddon Expo, was carrying a fake/costume weapon. Although his actions in this case were innocent, police were called to investigate.  Call-outs such as this can often tie up police resources when this is not necessary.

In an effort to reduce the amount of concerned citizens we had calling police in 2015, we appeal to those attending this year, to cover-up any fake weapons they plan to take or wear to the event.

Alternatively people could take transport to the stadium.
