Baby Remains in Critical Condition

The three-week old baby who suffered serious injuries in an incident at a Princes St residential address in Invercargill early yesterday morning remains in a critical condition and induced coma in Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland.

Emergency services had been called to the address around 5.30am yesterday morning following the incident and the baby was transported to Southland Hospital by ambulance before being transferred to Starship Children's Hospital yesterday afternoon.

Fifteen Police staff are working on the investigation into the incident. inquiries include interviews with the child's parents who were at the address at the time the incident occurred.

ESR and Police are carrying out a scene examination at the address today. This is expected to be completed either tomorrow or Thursday.

The family is being supported by Victim Support and friends.

Police say they are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.
