Baby Who Suffered Serious Injuries Dies

The three-month old baby boy who had been admitted to Starship Hospital in Auckland yesterday after suffering serious injuries has died.

Invercargill Police say that tragically the baby died early this morning as a result of the injuries.

Police say they are continuing their investigation into the baby's death, both on behalf of the coroner but also to determine whether there is any criminal culpability.

The event is a tragedy and Police extend their sympathies to the family involved.

Around six Police staff and an ESR team are continuing to undertake a forensic examination at the Riverton address that emergency services were called to on Monday evening where the baby was found with serious injuries.
