Body recovered from Timaru wharf confirmed as being missing 76 year old man

Canterbury Police can confirm that New Zealand Police Divers recovered the body of a man from Timaru wharf shortly before 9am this morning.  He has been formally identified as 76 year old Donald Alexander MacLeod.

The death has been referred to the Coroner who will determine the cause of death.

Mr MacLeod’s family are understandably upset and are being supported by Police and Victim Support.

Canterbury Police would like to thank the members of the public who phoned in with sightings of Mr MacLeod and LandSAR volunteers, Timaru Coastguard and Police Divers who helped with the search and recovery operation.
