Busy 24 hours for committed Hawke’s Bay Police

1 min read

Several offenders are being put before the courts, following a productive and proactive start to the weekend by Hawke’s Bay Police.

Alert staff, including a Police dog and its handler, caught four burglars in the act at two separate incidents on Ellison Rd and Raureka Rd, Hastings.

Of the four people arrested in connection with the burglaries, three are youth offenders.

In Havelock North, a team arrested a 42-year-old man and charged him with a range of offences. These include shoplifting, theft, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, wilful trespass, and failing to stop for Police. The man is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday 25 October 2016.

In another development, Police stopped a vehicle which contained a man wanted for breaching his bail conditions. The accused, 42, has also been charged with the possession of methamphetamine and amphetamine for supply. He is due to appear in the Hastings District Court on Tuesday 4 October 2016.

Elsewhere, four people were arrested in connection with a string of shoplifting offences.

“I am proud of my staff who work around the clock to keep our community safe,” says Area Commander, Inspector Tania Kura.

“While we continually hold people to account, it is sometimes worth pausing to appreciate the commitment of local Police, as seen with the efforts on Friday night and into Saturday morning.

“I congratulate my team for working to prevent crime in the area and to reduce victimisations among the public and business owners,” says Ms Kura.
