Car driver sought for hit and run

1 min read

Christchurch Police are appealing for public help in finding the driver of a car involved in a hit and run accident on Bealey Ave this morning.

A 77 year old male cyclist was heading east on Bealey Ave and was struck by a car pulling out of Geraldine Street just after 8am.

The driver did not stop and left the cyclist laying on the road.

The man is being treated at Christchurch Hospital for a neck injury, possible broken ribs and lacerations.  The cyclist thought the vehicle was an older style and grey in colour but was unable to confirm how many occupants were in the vehicle.

The cyclist was wearing a bright orange fleece top with a reflective vest and dark coloured helmet.

Constable Glen Alder would like to hear from anybody who witnessed the crash or saw the vehicle leaving the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Christchurch police on (03) 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
