A truck is blocking the road and a trailer is hanging over the edge of Blue Mountains Road in Upper Hutt. 16 cattle that were in the trailer have got out.
Police priority is the cattle which have gone into the bush and the potential for them to head towards the Pinehaven area.
Animal control are on the way and a vet has been notified to assist as well.
The road remains blocked, so police want to advise motorists that Blue Mountains Road is unavailable until further notice and to use other routes to head to Whitemans Valley.
