Celebrate “everyday heroes” tomorrow

1 min read

Waikato Police will give locals a chance to get up close and personal with their “everyday heroes” tomorrow.

The free event will begin at 9am at The Base Shopping Centre where a range of exciting emergency service displays and demonstrations will be on show for all to enjoy.

Police, Fire and St John will be in attendance, while the efforts of other organisations and volunteers that help keep our communities safe will also be celebrated.

The free event will include demonstrations from the Armed Offenders Squad, road policing teams, Raglan Surf Lifesaving, Waikato Regional Council Maritime Services, Land SAR Hamilton and many more.

The ever-popular Police Eagle helicopter will also touch down for an hour of viewing.

Youngsters are encouraged to dress up as their favourite everyday heroes, with a chance to win one of a 100 Police teddy and Police dog soft toys.

There will also be more than 300 goodie bags to give away.

Constable Peter Van’t Wout says the day offers Police an important opportunity to interact with the community.

"It’s a chance for the community to meet a number of services and agencies that are responsible for saving lives and making our communities safer.”

“The event allows us to build trust and confidence in our agencies, to take the mystery out of policing and show everyone first-hand what we do.

“It is great that we can do this with other organisations who add so much value to our community.”
