Charges laid in murder of Shayne Heappey

Overnight Police have charged a 31-year-old man with the murder of Shayne Heappey, who was admitted to Christchurch Hospital on 8 December and died of his injuries.

He has appeared in Dunedin District Court today.

A 29-year-old man has also been charged with murder in Christchurch today and is currently remanded in custody.

He will appear in Christchurch District Court on 20 December.

The previously charged 50-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He will reappear on the 11 January.

Additional charges are likely for all those arrested and enquiries are still ongoing.

Police will today complete the forensic scene investigation at a Stanbury Avenue, Somerfield address.

“This has been a fast-moving enquiry with an investigation team that’s worked tirelessly to locate those responsible for the death of Mr Heappey,” says Detective Inspector Corrie Parnell.

“Police would like to thank the community for their assistance and reassure them that this was an isolated incident.”
