Police responding to a report of a person with a firearm at a house in Riwaka have now cleared the house and no firearm has been located.

Police received an anonymous call from a member of the public shortly after noon today and the area was cordoned until Armed Offenders Squad members were able to respond.

All cordons have now been stood down and residents are free to return to their homes.

Senior Sergeant Blair Hall said Police have not found any information to substantiate the initial call and inquiries into the matter are continuing. He said Police did not believe there was any risk to public safety at this time.
