At about 12.30pm today Police and emergency services attended a single vehicle crash on S.H 94 between Riversdale and Balfour.
The driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a sweeping right hand bend and left the road. The vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest.
Fire service cut the trapped driver free, and the female who had sustained serious leg injuries was transported to Southland Hospital.
The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Enquiries into the crash are continuing.
