Drivers on SH 8 warned to take care due to high winds

High winds are causing problems for drivers on SH 8 in the area of Tekapo, Twisel and Fairlie.

Motorists are being asked to driver to the conditions. Anyone towing a vehicle or driving a high-sided vehicle, caravan or campervan in the area is asked to reconsider their travel plans or park up and wait for the winds to die down. Extreme care is needed by anyone choosing to drive on SH8 under these weather conditions. 

Police are currently responding to an incident involving a bus which was blown off the road west of Burkes Pass township in the Mackenzie District. No one was injured in the incident and the bus remained upright.
