Police investigating Monday’s shooting in Ashburton have undertaken an extensive search of an area stretching from the scene of the incident to the farm near the location where a man was apprehended.  This included searching approximately 13 kilometres of riverbank along the Ashburton River.

The search team has located a black mountain bike with a number of personal items thought to belong to the man arrested in relation to Monday’s incident.  However they are continuing to look for any other items which could include an additional firearm and ammunition that may have been in his possession.

Canterbury Police search teams, including specialist firearms dog handlers and dogs from Christchurch and Wellington, were joined by 65 volunteer SAR team members from Christchurch, Methven, Oxford, Rakaia, Ellesmere and Timaru to search through rough scrub and bush this weekend.

Police will continue the search tomorrow with a smaller team of Police staff and ask the public and media to continue to keep away from the area.

Police are still seeking information regarding the owner of a distinctive blue/red/yellow Challenger Sport mountain bike that was located last week.  If this is your bike or you know who it belongs to please contact Police.

Please contact Police urgently if you believe you have any information that may help with locating any personal items or this bike by calling Ashburton police on (03) 307 8411.

Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
