Emergency Services were called to a fatal accident in the Buller gorge at around 9 a.m this morning.
The crash involved a Car Transporter and a light van, and occurred near the Lyall walkway.
“Sadly the sole occupant of the van passed away at the scene from injuries received in the crash.” said Senior Sergeant Shane Miles.
Police are at the scene investigating the cause of the crash and are attempting to locate and notify family members of the deceased.
Traffic between the West Coast and Nelson s currently being diverted with the road closed at Inanahua Junction and O’Sullivans Bridge. This diversion is likely to remain for some time this afternoon.
