Police and emergency services were alerted to a suspected fatal fire near Mt Alexander, Hurunui at around 3.40pm this afternoon.
Police can confirm that one person has been found deceased at the scene and two colleagues of the deceased are uninjured. The rural fire was a controlled scrub burn-off.
The death has been referred to the Coroner.
Police, Fire Service and Worksafe investigations into the incident are continuing.
A further update will be made later this week once next of kin have been fully informed.
