Hastings Central Police Station was evacuated this evening after a small fire.
The incident occurred about 7pm. The fire, which started in the custody suite, was quickly contained by the Fire Service.
Those in custody were relocated to the cells at Hastings District Court.
One person was taken to hospital as a precaution after smoke inhalation.
Minor damage was sustained to one cell.
Police are currently working to understand the circumstances of the fire and will be investigating in the coming days.
