Firearm Buy-Back Process: Collection event open day

1 min read

New Zealand Police would like to invite members of the media to an open day to see and hear first-hand about how collection events will operate during the buy-back process.

Minister of Police Hon Stuart Nash will be in attendance.

Local collection events are the preferred option of safely collecting firearms and parts during the buy-back period and, with nearly 200 already planned around New Zealand, this is an opportunity to see the process and complexities involved in handing in firearms in a controlled environment.

We will run through various scenarios of the hand in process and also explain to you the other options available for firearm collection.

Police will then take questions.

Photography and filming during this special onsite briefing will be allowed, but we’ll advise you of some parameters in place on arrival.

Please note: Collection events from 13 July are for the safe and secure hand in of firearms by owners and due to privacy considerations we will not be allowing the filming or photography of the public inside Collection events. We trust you understand this is a sensitive time for some people.
