Firearms recovered as police disrupt gang activity

Police today executed a series of search warrants in Tokoroa acting on information received from the public relating to the illegal possession of firearms.

Three firearms and a significant amount of ammunition were recovered from addresses in Hinau Street this morning (Friday, 13 November). Six men will appear in the Rotorua District Court tomorrow facing various charges including Arms Act offences and breaches of court imposed bail conditions.

Acting Area Commander for Taupo, Inspector Brent Crowe said: “This was a controlled, pre-planned operation, where Police have acted on information relating to criminal gangs and illegal possession of firearms. At no time during the operation was any there cause for public concern. The public should be under no illusion; gangs are not involved in organised crime that causes significant harm in our communities. Police will continue to focus on the gangs illegal activities and work with communities to disrupt criminal activity and prevent further harm.”
