Four teenage girls arrested for aggravated street robbery

Four teenage girls have been arrested and charged with Assault with intent to rob following a street attack in the Auckland CBD overnight.

The four, aged between 14 and 15, will appear in the Auckland Youth Court on 31 March 2016.

The arrests follow an alleged attack on two young women in Queen Street. One of the victims was allegedly beaten and kicked on the ground when she refused to give up her handbag.

Police say further charges may also be laid in relation to other similar incidents in the city.

Inspector Matt Srhoj, Auckland Central Area Prevention Manager said he was appalled by the level of violence displayed in the attack. 

"This sort of violence will not be tolerated in our city and we will be taking all steps available to us to ensure that those respnsible are dealt with in the strongest possible way."
