Taranaki Police have now formally identified the 2-year-old girl, who died on Friday 26 June, 2015 at a Hawera residential property.
However police cannot release any further identifying details as she has been granted interim name suppression.
A 27-year-old Hawera man has been charged with assault in relation to the death and has been remanded in custody.
He will appear in the Hawera District Court on Tuesday 30 June, 2015.
Inquires are ongoing and further charges against the man are likely.
